Eye Problems & Care: Prevention and Home Remedies

According to the report released by WHO 220 crores (2.2 billion) people in the world suffering from eye problems and visual impairment. This data shows how severe this problem is becoming, and in India, almost half of the Indian population around 56 crores (560 million) people are suffering from eye and vision problems. Eye problem mostly occurs in people the age of more than 60, but it has been seen that the high usage of mobile phones, TV, and other watchable accessories among youth is devasting their eye vision and increasing the problems drastically. Due to the high usage of cell phones, 2 out of 3 people suffers eye strain. Excessive usage of the cell phone can lead to blurred vision, sore eyes, dry eyes, and headaches.

The symptoms that are associated with eye problems are-

  • Eye pain
  • Blurriness in vision
  • Floaters around vision
  • Teary eyes
  • Pink and red eyes
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Burning eyes
  • Irritation and itching in the eye

What are the complications of eye problems?

Eyes are the most precious gift of God to us and the most sensitive and useful organ of our body. A tiny eye problem can lead us to severe eye problems and ignorance of any symptom can lead us to permanent blindness. Symptoms a person can face are already written above. The complications a person can face due to eye problems are-

  • Night blindness
  • Dry eye syndrome
  • Conjunctivitis (Pink eye or red eye)
  • Refractive errors in vision 
  • Eyestrain
  • Cataract 
  • Glaucoma

 

Dos and Don’ts to increase eye vision

  • Do not use cell phone 1 hour before sleep
  • Good sleep for minimum 7hrs to 8hrs is a must
  • Stop excessive usage of cell phones and televisions
  • Apply saliva around the eyes after waking
  • Massage the sole of feet and toes
  • Blink your eyes while using your phone and laptops and take breaks
  • Walk on the green grass every morning
  • Eye exercise daily in the morning.
  • Wash your eyelids daily with baby soap or shampoo.
  • Do not walk on a hard and hot surface
  • Drop 2 drops of goat milk in the eye.
  • Consume at least 5 litres of water daily
  • Wear specs while going to the pollute area
  • Wear sunglasses during sun exposure 
  • Wash your hands before contacting it to the eyes
  • Warm compress to the eye if eyes are dry.
  • Consume 2-3 walnuts daily
  • Maintain a minimum 25cm distance while reading the book and using the cell phone
  • Consume citrus fruits like lemon, oranges, and grapes
  • Eat vitamin-E rich fruits and food
  • Flaxseed, chia seed, and hemp seed also helps to improve 
  • Eat green leaves vegetables, fish, egg, and carrots.
  • Taratak kriya helps to improve eye vision and cures many eye disorders.

  

Home remedies for the different eye problems

There are many eye problems and each problem require a different solution, follow the remedies mentioned below to cure the respective problem you are facing-

Home remedy for night blindness-

Ingredients- Root of Achyranthes Aspera (Apamarg)

Instructions- Dry the root of Achyranthes Aspera (Apamarg) in shadow, after drying it grind it with the traditional method to make churana of it. Consume 5gr of churana daily with one glass of water. 

If you are non-vegetarian, fry animal-liver in pure ghee with a few snaps of black pepper and consume at least thrice a week. 

Home remedy for dry eyes-

  • Take flax seed powder mix it with food or juice and consume the mixture daily.
  • Use palm oil as a cooking oil
  • Soak chia seed in a cup of water, after they puff up consume it with juices or milk.
  • Hydrate your body by consuming a minimum of 4 to 5 litres of water daily

Home remedy for conjunctivitis-

Ingredients- Fresh juicy potato

Instructions- Scrub the potato cleanly and make 2-3 pieces, depending on the size of the potato. Put a piece of potato on a cheesecloth and squeeze it till the potato piece drain the sap. After soaking the potato sap in cheesy cloth apply that cloth on the close eye for 10 minutes regularly and 3 times a day.

Close your eyes every 20 minutes for 20 seconds.

Home remedy for Refractive error-

People who have problems with short vision (myopia), far vision (hyperopia), and any kind of refractive vision should follow the following steps mentioned below-

  • Put 3-4 drops of pure ghee in the nose
  • Tratak kriya is a must, every night start watching the candle flame for 20 minutes regularly.
  • Powder the 100 gr fennel seed, 100 gr almonds, 100 gr crystal sugar, and 50 gr black pepper together. Take 1 spoon of this powder and consume it with a glass of milk daily. 
  • Consume triphala powder daily with pure ghee

Home remedy for Eyestrain-

Take a full gulp of water in your mouth, keep it for long and simultaneously wash your eyes with normal cold water. 

Do tratak kriya till your eyes turn teary, let the tears come out. This remedy will work from its first day.

Consume 4-5 litres of water daily to keep yourself dehydrated.

Home remedy for cataract

1 remedy Ingredients- Almond, Black pepper powder, and pure honey.

Instructions- Chop 7 to 8 almonds finely, take 1 spoon of black pepper powder and 1 spoon of honey. Mix these 3 things in one glass of lukewarm waterand consume it regularly. 

2 remedy Ingredients- 2 spoon fennel seed powder, 2 spoon coriander powder, and 1 spoon brown sugar.

Instructions- Mix all these three ingredients properly and consume them twice a day.

3rd remedy- Boil 500 grams of spinach, strain the boiled spinach properly and drink the sap of boiled spinach twice a day.
