Obesity & Overweight: Causes, Complication & Home Remedies

In daily life we see hundreds of people living with fatty and overweight bodies, most of these people often get ashamed and feel embarrassed to present themselves in the public, people tease them and laugh at the structure of their body, spare these issues obese or overweight people go through complex medical conditions. As per the report released by the world health organization (WHO), in 2016 there were more than 1.9 billion (190 crores) adult people were overweight and 650 million (65 crores) people among them were obese. Around 40 million (4 crores) children under the age of 5 were obese, and 34 crore children between the age of 5-19 years were obese or overweight.

Due to the cause of obesity, we lose 4 million (40 lakh) people every year, and the registered numbers of obesity got increased to triple since 1975. The same report of WHO says that people with obesity or overweight die earlier than the people with underweight. 


What are obesity and overweight?

Obesity is a disease in which our body carry excess body fat, obesity is a very complex disease that produces other diseases as well. The stage that comes after being overweight considered obesity. Only an overweight person can be obese. All the obese people are overweight but not every overweight person is obese, there is a certain formula to evaluate obesity and overweight, the formula is- Divide your total weight (in Kilograms) with the square of your total height (in meters), this is called BMI (Body mass index) formula. If your BMI is coming more than or equal to 25, then you will be considered overweight, and if your BMI is coming 30 or over, then this will be considered obese.

Normal weight- BMI would be less than 25

Overweight- BMI would be 25 or more

Obese- BMI would be 30 or more

Obesity begins with light fat around the tummy and then it increases across the body.


What are the causes of obesity or overweight? 


When a person consumes more calories than their body burns it causes obesity or overweight. There are the major causes of obesity stated below-

  • Overconsumption of food (Body fails to burn all the calories)
  • Physical inactivity (physical inactivity turns energy into fat)
  • Eating frequency (how many times you eat also varies)
  • Medication (taking weight gain and anti-depression medicine)
  • Psychological reasons 
  • Poor diet 
  • Over drinking alcohol
  • Overconsumption of junk food and processed food
  • Genetic and family history of obesity
  • Sleeping disorder 
  • Pregnancy

  • Avoid eating fried and fat-rich food
  • Stop drinking alcohol

  • Increase your physical activity 
  • Exercise regularly 
  • Eat cabbage salad daily

Home remedies for obesity or overweight-

People who are living with obesity and overweight should follow these tested home remedies to reduce their weight and to live a healthy life-


First home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: 1 Glass lukewarm water, 1 spoon of honey, and sap of ½ lemon

Instructions: Put honey and lemon-sap in the lukewarm water and mix it well. Drink this mixture regularly once a day. 


Second-home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: One glass of water, 2 spoons of apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice

Instructions: Properly mix the apple cider vinegar and lemon juice in the water. Drink this mixture one time a day on an empty stomach.


Third home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: ½ spoon of cinnamon powder, ½ spoon of honey, and ½ cup of boiling water

Instructions: Add cinnamon powder and honey in the boiling water and mix it well. Drink half of this mixture on an empty stomach in the morning, consume the remaining mixture before going to the bed.


Fourth home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: One cup of water, 3 spoons of lemon juice, 1 spoon of honey, and a pinch of black pepper powder

Instructions: Mix all these ingredients properly to make a good mixture. Drink this mixture regularly twice a day for 2 months.


Fifth home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: 2 spoons of Triphala powder, and 500ml of water

Instructions: Boil the water with mixing Triphala powder for 5 minutes and then strain the boiled mixture. Drink the mixture twice a day.


Sixth home remedy for obesity or overweight

Ingredients: 2 Spoons of ginger juice, 3 spoons of lemon juice, 2 spoons of honey, and 1 glass of lukewarm water

Instructions: Nicely mix the ginger juice, lemon juice, and honey into the lukewarm water and drink one glass of concoction twice a day.
